Gerard M. Walsh
Gerard (Jerry) M. Walsh joined Episcopal Health Services (EHS) as CEO in late 2015 and retired in early 2024. With over 40 years of healthcare leadership experience, his expertise is in organizational change, physician development, quality, patient safety, mergers and acquisitions, and community hospitals.
Upon joining EHS, Mr. Walsh established a multi-year strategic plan that included expanding access to care across the Rockaway Peninsula. Under his leadership, he opened the first women’s comprehensive health center, doubled the size of the emergency department, and opened the Clinical Learning Center in partnership with Ross University School of Medicine.
During his tenure, Mr. Walsh established the St. John’s ICARE Foundation and Innovative Health Partners and managed over $100M in capital projects. The most recent project is the new ambulatory pavilion, aptly named The Walsh Ambulatory Pavilion, which will open in 2025.
Before joining EHS, Mr. Walsh was the Chief Executive Officer of Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown, Maryland, where he built a new leadership team and implemented several clinical services. Before leading Western Maryland Hospital Center, Mr. Walsh spent 15 years as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Shore Regional Health, a three-hospital health system affiliated with the University of Maryland Medical System. He led the regionalization plan for the Mid Shore, which integrated Chester River Health System into Shore Health System to form a new company—Shore Regional Health.
Mr. Walsh was born and raised in Queens, NY. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration from St. John’s University and a Master of Science in Health Systems Management from Iona College.
