Edison Bond, Jr.

With over 30 years of health care experience in both public and private academic medical centers and acute care hospitals, Dr. Edison Bond’s recent addition to the St. John’s ICARE Foundation’s Advisory Committee, is certain to be an asset.

Dr. Bond joined the EHS family in October 2023 and is the Chief Patient Experience Officer at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, Episcopal Health Services, Inc. He has already made a significant impact. Thankful Thursday, an initiative he implemented, has partnered with ICARE to promote comfort and joy to both patients and team members. This quarterly program operates through giveaways, thank you notes, utilization of the Foundation’s comfort carts and monthly live music. He sees Thankful Thursday as “an opportunity to express our appreciation and gratitude to our patients and community members for entrusting us to provide adequate healthcare services. Also, to express our appreciation for our team members and to say, ‘thank you’ for all they do for our community.” Dr. Bond believes a large part of fostering positive experiences involves relationship building. “Through networking, we can tell the EHS story."

Dr. Bond has a proven track record in leading the successful cultural transformation for enhancing the patient experience and employee engagement. Prior to his role at EHS, Dr. Bond served in a number of leadership roles, among them, Vice President & Chief Patient Experience Officer at Arnot Health System in Elmira, New York and Senior Director, Office of Patient Experience at MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio, just to name a few.

Dr. Bond was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, a city where he currently resides with his wife, Portia Hawkins-Bond, two sons, and three grandchildren. He enjoys the simple beach life and spending time with his family. Dr. Bond is a lifelong learner. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University, holds a Master of Public Health from Brooklyn College, a Master of Divinity degree and Doctor of Ministry from New York Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Education degree from Grand Canyon University.

Dr. Bond believes in the old adage, “where much is given, much is required.” He says, “This is where you get people to understand the importance of dedicated work, and to ask, ‘what can I do to help?’” He looks forward to collaborating with the Advisory Committee; working together “to build this village.”
